I can’t express in words my passion for drumming. Words just don’t exist. In the spirit of exploring the idea of enlightenment and in line with all I’ve been learning about the connection between mind body and spirit I’m inspired by the Editor’s Overview in April’s issue of Modern Drummer.
Adam J. Budofsky quotes the President recently as saying, “Sudden loss causes us to look backward, but also it forces us to look forward, to reflect on the present and the future, on the manner in which we live our lives….We may ask ourselves if we’ve shown enough kindness and generosity and compassion to the people in our lives. Perhaps we question whether we’re doing right by our children or our community, whether our priorities are in order….And we are reminded that in the fleeting time we have on this earth, what matters is not wealth, or status, or power, or fame, but how well we have loved, and what small part we have played in making the lives of other people better.”
This reminded Adam of a conversation he witnessed 3 days prior to hearing the President speak these words. The conversation was between Modern Drummer Pro Panelist Jeff Davis and veteran gospel drummer Bill Maxwell. Bill said, “We’re representing the creator of the world. I want to be creative. I want to be available to still keep my joy, my enthusiasm, and my musicality. I really want to do something that’s good. And I want to serve. It’s not about me-it’s about the listener and the artist. I’m thinking about eternity, and about having an effect on people’s lives.”
